The “Home Hole” at Heather Glen Golf Links offers many challenges. The Par 5, dogleg right, plays 587 yards from the tips. The trouble starts early as the tee shot must avoid the trees lining the right side of the hole, and a large sand trap on the left. A very well-struck tee shot comes with a tough decision: go for it, or lay up?
Going for the green on your second shot not only involves carrying a large pond, but also a very deep sand bunker which guards the green. This is not to mention a grove of towering pines eager to hinder any shot too far right.
The safer approach is to lay up down the center of the fairway. The secret to this shot is to hit the ball far enough to avoid two seemingly harmless trees which border the pond. If this is done successfully, a third shot of 100-150 yards to a wide green which opens up from that angle awaits.
Your work is not done by simply reaching the green. It slopes severely down the front, and the right side slopes back away from the fairway.
A challenging finishing hole where birdies are very possible, but pars will win many matches.
